Alabama’s 2021 season unexpectedly ended with a loss to Georgia in the National Championship. This was unexpected as the team’s play throughout the season was not that of a national title contender.
Some narrow wins against opponents that shouldn’t have posed challenges to the Crimson Tide, as well as a road loss to a weak Texas A&M team exposed some weaknesses in Alabama’s young 2021 squad.
With many key players returning for the 2022 season and a few big transfers joining the program, the Crimson Tide should lead the table in the upcoming regular season.
In 247Sports SEC’s latest football projections, Alabama is expected to finish 12-0 and be the strongest team in the conference with a College Football Playoff position locked in ahead of the conference championships.
Brad Crawford of 247Sports writes,
“Betting on 11.5 wins is always dangerous given the difficulty of staying unscathed in the SEC, but Alabama should be at least a touchdown favorite in every game next fall and face a schedule without too many zones. dangerous for the defending league champions. If the Crimson Tide stays healthy and Bryce Young-Will Anderson wipes out the competition once again, Nick Saban’s team should be able to write their ticket to the playoffs no matter what happens in Atlanta. A Week 2 showdown in Texas is one to watch outside of the conference.
